I was asked to make TWO mauls for Bond of Friendship Lodge in Bonn, which was done by a friend. I had questioned "two"? at the time and it came as no surprise, with a week to go when it was amended to three! My friend had no more matching timber, so he substituted Lime and made three more. They were delighted with them.
The first time they were used, the handles on two of them split and fell off. It was not the fault of their making -- lime simply won't withstand vertical shocks (but none of us knew that, until now!)
I made them another set out of elm with ash handles and blocks, and challenged them to break these!
